Hotel rates.... Note to self!
Do you ever negotiate a price for your grocery shopping at the supermarket or clothes shop…. Hairdresser, revenue, petrol station, restaurant… do you? I know I don’t… I know that every business have their own bills, wages, tax to pay! And that’s only first reason you should never negotiate with the hotel. The bigger the hotel the more the employees & of course a massive revenue bill that you just wouldn’t like to deal with but yet you expect the best customer service, free Wi-Fi, breakfast included, free dinner, glass of bubbly on arrival, Lillie’s in the room, cot, free toothbrush, free car park! Chocolates! The best Chef, The best produce, most qualified labour, most unique experience & even a gluten free biscuit!
Hotels use Yield management system, to calculate the rates, rooms and restrictions on sales in order to best maximize their return. These systems measure constrained and unconstrained demand along with pace to gauge which restrictions to implement, e.g. length of stay, non-refundable rate, or close to arrival. Yield management teams in the hotel industry have evolved tremendously over the last 10 years and in this global economy targeting the right distribution channels, controlling costs, and having the right market mix plays an important role in yield management. Yield management in hotels is selling rooms and services at the right price, at the right time, to the right people.
However if you still like to make COMPLAINT about the rate to whomever is involved to make a reservation for you or check you in as you just decided to ‘’walk in’’, make sure you write your complain to Robert Crandall, former Chairman and CEO of American Airlines, who gave yield management its name and has called it "the single most important technical development in transportation management since we entered deregulation."… Especially when you realise how difficult this industry is.
Behind every hotel, big or small, there IS someone so incredibly passionate, fully involved, work hard day & night. You might think It's all just folding towels and changing the sheets, right? When you scale that up to include hundreds of rooms with guests coming and going every day of the week, the management of resources—both the workforce and the linens—can become quite chaotic. Please consider the hard work that is required for your enjoyable stay.
